Flight ET302 from Addis Ababa to Nairobi crashed near the village of Bishoftu (60 km from the capital), 6 minutes after take-off.
The 157 people on board (passengers and crew) were killed.

The plane hit the ground at nearly 1,100 km/h, despite the best efforts of the pilots.
The impact created a crater about 27 m wide and 37 m long, and the wreckage sank to a depth of 9.1 m into the ground.

French families travel to Ethiopia. They gather at the crash site and honour their loved ones.
During a very moving ceremony, the French Embassy in Addis Ababa inaugurates a Grove of Remembrance in its gardens. Relatives of the victims plant jacarandas, also known as Blue Flamboyants, in their memory.
October 2019
After long months of waiting, families travel to Ethiopia to bring home the coffins of their deceased.
The rainy season has filled the impact crater with water.
November 14, 2019
Burial of human remains and unidentified objects in the crater and filling of the crater.
Families are informed 24 hours prior to the operation and are not invited. Representatives of Boeing, on the other hand, attend.
March 10, 2020
First Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony
Over four days, the event brought together about 800 relatives of the victims, allowing them to measure the size of their community.
The tribute paid to the 157 victims during the commemorations was extremely powerful, respectful and elegantly organized.
